MEG (Monoethylene glycol) is the simplest divalent alcohol. It is also called ethylene glycol or simply glycol.
Ethylene chlorohydrin is derived from ethylene and then hydrolyzed to monoethylene glycol.
For industrial use, it is produced from ethylene oxide. It is a clear and sweet vicious liquid and has hygroscopic properties. It melts easily in water and alcohol and is difficult to melt in ether. MEG is one of the main ingredients of polyethylene terephthalate, alkyd resin and synthetic fiber. Commonly used as Glycol Solvent, Anti Freezes, Cooling & Coalesing Agent
